Exploring the Effect of WDM Channels on EDFA Spectral Gain

Multiplexing (WDM) channel numbers on the spectral gain of Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs). Employing OptiSystem simulations, the research explores different configurations, including pump wavelengths (980 nm and 1480 nm) and pumping directions (forward and bidirectional). Results reveal significant effects of WDM channel numbers on the gain spectrum, with notable differences observed, particularly with 8 channels. This research addresses this gap by investigating the relationship between WDM channel number and EDFA spectral gain. While pump direction shows minimal influence, switching pump wavelengths enhances agreement with the desired gain profile, especially for lower channel numbers. This study underscores channel allocation's significant influence on spectral gain in WDM systems. Finally, the findings provide valuable insights for organizing WDM systems in laboratory settings with limited conditions, facilitating more efficient utilization of resources.
